Located in the Gard department in the Occitan region, La Roque-sur-Cèze is not lacking in attractions. Just forty kilometres from Vallon Pont d’Arc and Avignon, come and discover this small French town and its amazing surroundings.

Visit La Roque-sur-Cèze

La Roque-sur-Cèze is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Due to its geographical location and architecture, the town offers an astonishing and charming landscape. Indeed, this medieval village is built high up, perched on a rocky peak. From the top of the village, you will have the opportunity to admire the Cascades du Sautadet and the beautiful Cèze river. This magnificent panoramic view brings an undeniable charm to this historic and preserved site.

The water points

  • The Sautadet waterfalls are located along the Cèze river, near the town of La Roque-sur-Cèze.
    This site is a must in the region and attracts many tourists during the summer months. If it is forbidden to swim at the waterfalls, the simple contemplation of them is a spectacle not to be missed. You can also enjoy a small beach only a few minutes walk away to swim and relax with your family.

    The Sautadet waterfalls are accessible thanks to a nearby car park (5 euros). Camping les Cascades offers free access to the waterfalls and the beach.

  • The Vis waterfalls
    You will find the waterfalls of La Vis at the border of Hérault, in the village of Saint-Laurent Le Minier. This preserved natural site offers a magnificent setting to visitors. The beautiful waterfalls flow into clear and refreshing water, appreciated by bathers. Finally, the banks are accessible to all and offer some shaded areas.
  • The Lussan Conclusions
    The Concluses de Lussan are incredible gorges dug by the Aiguillon River. Located a few kilometres north of Lussan, this remarkable natural site offers a 6 km hike (only accessible by foot). Choose this walk in dry weather and during the summer months. This little gem of nature offers you an extraordinary view of the arches and high cliffs.

Surrounding villages

In the surroundings of La Roque-sur-Cèze, you can meet charming little medieval villages. At the exit of the Gorges de l’Ardèche for example, discover Aiguèze and its amazing setting. Located at the foot of the cliffs, the village overlooks the Ardèche and offers an exceptional view.
 
Classified as the most beautiful village in France, let yourself be seduced by the charm and vegetation of the Montclus village.

Historical visits

  • Caesar’s Camp – Laudun
    A few kilometres from the municipality of Laudun, is one of the most remarkable historical sites in the region. Indeed, Camp de César represents no less than 18 hectares of archaeological site.
    Camp de César offers free access to the public and displays the Gallo-Roman remains discovered during the excavations.
  • Aqueduct of Balouvière
    The 76-metre long Balouvière aqueduct was built in 1870 in the village of Laudun. Made of bricks and limestone, the architecture of the building is similar to that of the Pont du Gard. Don’t miss this monument if you are passing through the area.
  • The Chartreuse de la Valbonne
    A former monastery, the Chartreuse de Valbonne is nowadays rehabilitated as a hotel and restaurant. From the outside, observe the immensity of the building, its bell towers and colourful roofs. You will have the opportunity to visit the old buildings, the beautiful chapel and the magnificent gardens.
  • The Salamander Cave
    Discover the fascinating Grotte de la Salamandre, accessible to everyone from Méjannes le Clap. Amateur or informed public, one thing is certain, you will not remain insensitive to the Kingdom of the Crystal Giants. On the programme, 4 possible visits: access to the belvedere for people with reduced mobility, a guided tour of the cave, an abseiling tour and finally the backstage at La Salamandre.
  • The Aven d’Orgnac
    Located between the departments of Ardèche and Gard, the cave of Aven d’Orgnac is a remarkable historical site. Family and informative, the visit of the cave promises you a total amazement through the different rooms. Considering the temperature (12 degrees) and the 700 steps to get down, remember to dress accordingly.
